Let say you complete bomb them. How much will that affect your admissions to a university?

Do they even account for anything other than National Merit?

Let say you complete bomb them. How much will that affect your admissions to a university?

Do they even account for anything other than National Merit?

well, if you aren’t going to be national merit, it really doesn’t count for anything

if you are a semi finalist (at least 200+), you get MANY free-ride offers from very good schools (University of Oklahoma, Texas A&M come to mind)

Yeah, a complete bomb on the PSATs won’t keep you from getting admitted to a school.

Do colleges request sophomore year psat scores?

Nobody sees your PSAT scores except you and your high school. A NMF with a score of 217 and one with a 240 will look exactly the same to colleges. If you didn’t get any kind of special recognition it’s the same if you get a 140 or a 199. However, some high school transcripts show them. Check with your high school.

so what do you need to qualify as a national merit?

It depends on the individual state’s cut-off line. It’s usually somewhere between 210 and 220, although lower and higher points are not unheard of.

I am currently a sophomore and have been getting upper 230s on the PSAT diagnostic tests, nonetheless, I cannot qualify for NMS if I happen to get a 217+ this year, correct?

Correct. Only your junior year PSAT scores count for NMF.

Thanks, so essentially my PSAT scores this year are meaningless?

Yes. Diagnostic only.

They can only help you. If you get a NMS type score junior year it helps, but otherwise they are just practice for the SAT.

well, all ure PSAT scores in sophomore year will do is have mail from colleges raid your household.

very important..if you don’t get a good score, you will fail, in everything else. FAIL!

or so my parents said.

we all know how right they were.

^ Lol.

If you guys are smart, DON’T check the box that says “It’s okay if you share my scores with colleges that want to send me mindblowing amounts of mail.” Haha. And definitely don’t check it two years in a row lol.

^ agreed…

if you MUST check the box, create a different email (perhaps your first name.last name@gmail.com ???)

Yeah, I checked that box last year… the onslaught of emails and letters reminded me of that scene in the first Harry Potter, where all the Hogwarts letters came flying through the fireplace… only a little worse =P

haha, if it’s such a problem, just don’t check it. I bet most people like recieving the mail though. Heh, one day to go.

When I take the PSAT I’ll check off the box. This way, all the mail that I receive will inflate my ego much higher than it should be.

so quick question…im a sophomore and i will be taking the PSAT this saturday. So if I check the box allowing email does that mean colleges will be able to view my score. What happens if I dont score as well as I hoped this year, but will do better next year. Just wondering…thanks
