How important are PSATs?

It doesn’t really matter. No colleges really care about the PSAT unless you become a NMSF or NMS. They’re not going to judge you.

I don’t think they see your actual score. It’s more like lists of people that scored within a range. Colleges buy the lists they need.

…so I don’t want to but I have to now take the PSAT as a sophomore. Ridiculous hogwash; what a waste of 2 hrs of my life, when I could be sleeping.

I’m really not going to try much, since it doesn’t matter what I do anyways, and even if it did I cannot see myself trying on a test on a saturday morning that goes on for 2 hrs.

I’m a sophomore too, but I am looking forward to it. I am already looking forward to finding out my score to see what my strengths and weaknesses are. The PSAT is a lot better than going to class in my opinion.

It’s a way of checking out your competition on equal grounds. If you are not competitive, then there is always CC (community college, that is).

If you’re going to bomb it, why take it?

For me bombing it means not trying at all… if you do try, it’s good practice for the SAT. Although its not a good indicator for future scores… lol. I barely made commended on the PSAT. If I got the score I did on the SAT for the PSAT, I’d have qualified in California for the Finalist…

Long story, but I have to take it. Yeah, if I might as well take it, I guess I should try.

My english teacher made us look at a few sample questions from each test, the math/writing looks fairly easy/straightforward (by this I mean I’ll do decent, not extraordinary) but vocab/reading…LOL epic fail since I don’t read and I can’t concentrate on a passage that long; I’ll probably fall asleep. Also my vocabulary is quite not that good.

It doesn’t count for anything, so I’ve heard..

If you do check the box or whatever to receive mail from colleges, how long does it usually take for them to start coming in?

a NMS is 224+ in my state :P

Last year they started sending stuff around february.

what if i’m NMSF but don’t have room to put i on commonapp
should i find a way to add the info anyways

I’m sure there is some room in there to put it down (honors/awards?). In any case the NM people will be sending you a form asking you to name a first choice college to send that info to.

I thought that this didn’t really matter and was just for money. I’m not one of those privileged kids with a parent in one of those listed corporations. So I get a max of 2500?

The son of a Ford dealership mechanic (elegible for a corporate sponsonship) wouldn’t be one of those “privileged kids” you are talking about, would he? Unless you consider having a job a privilege. And, no, it can be a lot more than $2.5k
If you want to start learning what’s available to NM Finalists look at what University of Alabama offers.

i’ve filled up my awards/honors section

anyone know when you’re supposed to get the scores?

…soon…(actually, not soon enough).

Most schools share the scores in December, some schools do in early January.

ana ivanovic!!! – Additional Information section?

I strongly disagree- check that box!!! ive had a lot of desirable information my way, and my standards are just as high as anyone else’s here…
