Probably one of the few and far between, but it does happen. D was accepted ED last year with only ACT w/writing and no SAT IIs. She sat for SAT IIs in December and had Dartmouth acceptance before Dartmouth had scores. Whether not submitting scores is an advantage or disadvantage – or in our case probably neutral – I can’t say. And as hard as she tried to stretch the definition, D had no hook.

As background, we are in a state where ACT rules and even at our more selective schools (i.e., Northwestern, WashU) SAT IIs are optional with the ACT w/writing. We simply had not heard of SAT IIs before D considered Dartmouth. Had we, I think she would have taken the SAT IIs earlier and submitted them with her application. Not having scores was certainly not a strategic move on our part.

Good luck to all applicants!
