How important are SAT scores to Berkeley?

For example, let's say your GPA is not extraordinary but you have excellent SAT scores (2300+) vs. great GPA but lower SAT score..

assuming these two are the only factors (let's say everything else is constant in terms of extracurriculars, essays etc), which do you think has a better chance of getting in to Berkeley?

I ask this question because I feel my SAT score (2240) is better than my GPA (4.16 W).

GPA > SAT score.

^^ agreed.

Berkeley considers GPA to be "very important," as important as rigor of course load and essays. Scores are just "important."

Usually, a high SAT score won't make up for a weak GPA. Your SAT score isn't one that would "dazzle" them, but then again, your GPA doesn't seem weak.

Yeah, a high SAT score won't make up for a low GPA (though your GPA isn't that bad, honestly).

I know a couple friends with high scores (2320 and 2340) who were rejected by berk b/c they had a low GPA and not so stellar ECs.

4.16 (assuming that your UCGPA is roughly equivalent) and 2240? I'd guess you're in.

dunno. got in with 3.95 ucgpa.. and 2040, 800,740.

Berkeley accepts many students with high GPA but low SAT, but it accepts much less students with high SAT but low GPA.

what would be my case.. low gpa.. and average SAT... = =

If you are attending a california public high school, the UC has data on what the average GPA is at your high school, the competitiveness there, and how students that have been admitted perform at college.

from my experience, and my low SAT, berkeley seems to definitely emphasize GPA A LOT more!

^ yep, same.
