HELP!
I applied regular and I hope to get into Penn but I was just wondering about how important senior grades are. I received straight As first semester but I'm worried about ending up with a C in one of my classes second semester (not because I'm slacking, but because its an incredibly hard class. I probably will get As in all my other classes). Would Penn (and other top schools) rescind an offer based off of this? Would it be a better idea to just switch out of the class and notify my colleges of the switch?
I'd really appreciate any comments.

They matter in the sense that if you suddenly get straight Ds or fail classes there is a legitimate and real possibility of you not getting in/having your offer rescinded.

For one C, I doubt you're in trouble, especially if you are acing your other classes. I finished my last semester of high school with a C+ in one subject (Spanish, which I hated and had no plans of continuing in college anyway), so it's not the end of the world.

While we're on the subject, can someone help me with my problem? I recently discovered that the two C's which I seemingly inexplicably received on my grade card second quarter were due to assignments that I had in fact completed and submitted (one was an essay which was late though, but my Lit teacher is pretty lax about that and wouldn't really penalize for it as long as it doesn't become habitual). I am considering talking with my counselor and asking if it might be possible to work out a re-calculation of my grades and send a letter to Penn explaining my situation and including the corrected grades and GPA's... It was particularly important for me because my GPA was the weakness of my app which I noted was due to extenuating circumstances, and explicitly wrote that I have been working harder and doing better since my GPA took a lapse last year.

Do you think I should prioritize this? We are sort of halfway into third quarter now, though I have heard that teachers are able to alter past grades... But on the other hand I am really busy... Do you think it is worth it?

^uh yeah definitely worth it lol. two C's never looks better than higher grades...

my friend got some C's and D's

true gangsta tho

pz out

Definitely get that taken care of. It probably won't keep you out though if you're accepted as long as you aren't mega-tanking it.
