How Important are Teacher Recommendations?

I was just wondering how much weight colleges put in teacher recs. Although the two teachers who are writing mine like me, I don't think the recs will be outstanding. I'm guessing one will be pretty average, and the other slightly above. Will this hurt me a lot in the admissions process?

Also, will teachers get annoyed if you ask them to write 10 or 11 recs? And do they usually just do one application and then make multiple copies? Or do they write out every single one?

the teachers or your counselor makes copies

i'd say teacher recs are more important than a difference of 500 points on your SAT

the more selective the school you are applying to, the more important the teacher recs are

i'd say teacher recs are more important than a difference of 500 points on your SAT

No...a 2200 would put you in the running at one school, while a 1700 would put you in the auto-reject pile...

Of course it all depends on the rest of the application, but my point is that 500 points on the SAT is more significant than amazing teacher recs.

Well, a teacher who says "Do not accept this student" will also put the student in the auto-reject pile.

But since almost all recs are at least okay, 500 points is way too much.

I wonder how much attention is paid to recommendations and ECs by state schools. Do you think that it's more an admissions machine than a case by case situation? My d will be applying to several state schools (NJ) and a few privates. Her ECs are the strongest part of her application, and we are fairly sure that her recommendations will be great. We're hoping that the state schools at least look at that material, at least in determining aid.

how important is one teacher rec? (since there are two altogether)... do they balance out?
