I am not auto admit, so I have been looking at the AI equation that UT uses. It has sections for Math, Critical Reading, and Writing for SAT/ACT but doesn’t include the essay into the equation. Does UT really care about the essays for these tests or are they just a plus? I’m worried because I completely bombed the SAT essay, I got all 3’s. I retested however I am still not confident and am worried I will have to take the test again. Aside from my essay grades, I did OK, I scored a 1320 but am expecting to get a higher grade this second test, again not too sure about the essay though. I did okay in the ACT, 23/36, hoping to have raised it with the second test. thank you!
The AIs are based on the old tests (unless you have seen something more recent) so unfortunately we would only be guessing at what a new AI would do. UT requires the essay so you could infer that they use it somehow. What matters is how you do relative to others who apply to the same major so try to make sure your essay score is in the right ballpark from a percentile standpoint because the scores on the essays are weird. In particular, ACT is changing AGAIN this fall due to all the confusion about their last change- read about it in the SAT/ACT forum.
@gettingschooled would that mean that UT will be using a completely different equation? I know if you log into collegeboard.com you can convert your New SAT into Old SAT scoring format and vise versa, I’ve done it but I haven’t tried plugging in my numbers into the equation yet.
Completely different? Probably not. But yes, probably different. You really just have to look at the relative weights of the various sections to understand what they value. Not much help, I know!
@gettingschooled Thanks anyways!
