Just wondering how important SAT scores are when applying to Nova. I took the SAT's in march and in may of this year and I plan to retake them in october. Just looking for any feedback thanks:

March: C.R- 580 Math- 620 Writing-690

May: C.R- 670 Math- 610 Writing- 640

Superscore out of 2400: 1980 Out of 1600: 1290

Nova does not consider the writing section. The middle range for accepted students is around 1330-1440. In my opinion, whats just as important as your SATs and GPA is your involvement is service and leadership. Villanova has a student body that is very involved in the community and beyond.

The SATs seemed to be very important from my son’s group of friends. In fact, a set of twins had nearly identical apps with the exception of the SAT score and the one with the lower score was Waitlisted. I don’t know anyone from son’s school not accepted who had about a 3.5 average and a 1450 in the CR/M parts of the SAT1s.

Thanks for the response… I am not so much worried about my gpa /leadership activities. My gpa is approx. 3.5 and I play 3 varsity sports(captain of 2/3). I participate in 4 clubs with leadership positions in each one and I have spear-headed several school oriented activities (food/clothes drives etc.) I’m still a junior but I plan to apply to Villanova I just wanted to make sure that a lower score wouldn’t completely diminish my chance of being accepted.

I believe that Villanova will fully consider the writing portion of the SAT very soon.
The writing score was used as a secondary evaluative tool for for the first time for the applicants for Class of 2015. The reluctance of Villanova to include SAT writing was based on a lack of historical data , since the writing portion was introduced in 2005.

[Villanova University: Test Scores](http://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/admission/overview/undergrad/documents/testscores.html)

“The results of the SAT writing portion will be considered when evaluating an application. However, the SAT critical reading and math or the ACT composite will be used as the primary test indicators.”

The most important of academic and nonacademic factors in freshman admission decisions in the Villanova application are Class Rigor ,Class rank,Academic GPA & Standardized test scores.

Did you take AP or Honors courses ? Is your GPA weighted or unweighted ? Does your HS have a high school class ranking for students ? 90% of Villanova class of 2014 was in the top 25% of their HS class.

SAT will be critical to your application due to a 3.5 GPA, 61% of the Enrolled class of 2014 had a GPA above 3.75. Take a bunch of math practice test to get that above 650.
You will also find many Villanova students that were multi sport athletes in High School , team captaincy is a plus!

You have a decent shot , but no sure thing. Good luck.

I took three AP courses this year and I plan to take three more next year…with all of my other classes being honors level. I am not certain on my exact rank but I am definately in the top 25% of my graduating class as of junior year. I plan on taking a break and returning to the SAT in october but I am taking the SAT II’s and ACT this month. Thanks for the advice I appreciate it.

I would try to break 2000 or 1300 on your SAT. It will make you look like a more competitive applicant. For reference I was accepted into the Class of 2015 with a 2030/1390 SAT score and a 4.3 weighted and 3.8 unweighted GPA. Good luck!

I didnt do too great on my SATS and still got into VSB but i dont remeber a exact # so I wouldnt say they are the deciding factor
