I have a bit of a dilemma everyone. I have a near perfect SAT score (800w/790m/800cr) of 2390, but I'm worried about my subject test scores for the october sitting. Stanford "recommends" but does not require sending them in.

I'm applying SCEA for the Nov 1 deadline. I took lit, Bio E, and the Math 2, and I want to be a research scientist in biology. The rest of my application is strong (unusual ECs, leadership, perfect GPA, ect., check http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1518278-updated-chances-ivies-second-ivies-publics-will-chance-back.html if you want more info).

I'm not sure what to do about subject test scores. At what point are they bad enough that I shouldn't send them in, especially compared to the rest of my app? Anything below 700? Help is greatly appreciated, and I'd be happy to chance or help anyone else out :)

I’d really appreciate any insights. If you reply with some help, I’d love to answer any questions you might have, including essay reading, SAT tips, or chancing. Thanks again!

No special insight. In general, if a college is recommending something then that is what they want. Stanford is extremely competitive and thousands of kid will be going beyond the requirements. If you have them, I’d send them.

Even if the score on the Bio E test comes back at ~650 as a clear biology pre-major with my SAT scores?

Don’t borrow trouble. You don’t know your score. There isn’t an answer anyone can give you that will make you feel better about an imaginary test score. Just keep plugging away at your applications and make your decisions when you have the actual facts in front of you. I know it’s hard but that is really all you can do. Freaking out over a “maybe 650” when it could easily be a 750 is just a waste of your mental resources. Take care.

Thanks for the honesty there, I think everything is getting to me just a little bit. I need to take up yoga or something :P

Your SAT score is really great, but from what I’ve been told by trusted sources, colleges can reject you outright if your ECs and your Subject Test scores aren’t good enough.
A good score in a Subject Test would be >740 but that also depends on which ones you’re taking.

Stanford doesn’t require for you to send subject test scores in, only recommends. I have solid ECs, two lab experiences in prestigious research institutions and a highly-regarded university, unusual community service and involvement, clubs demonstrating leadership, founder of my own business, and plenty more. Everything else about my application is as good as I think I can make it. It’s just these subject test scores.

They do, however, ‘require’ you to send in all scores from all tests you have taken - isn’t that right? So I am sending in my subpar subject test scores regrettably.

No, it is not required that you send in subject tests that you have taken.

Straight off the Stanford website:
“SAT Subject Tests are recommended but not required. Applicants who do not take SAT Subject Tests will not be at a disadvantage. Because SAT Subject Tests are optional, applicants may use Score Choice to selectively send their SAT Subject Test scores.”

This means you can choose to not send in a subject test. You are required to send all SAT I and ACT scores.
