ARGH!!! I applied ED to columbia and i'm very insecure about a couple things.

first off, i have lots of things goin for me:
2280 sat, 33 act, 800+770 sat 2's, 3.982gpa (top 3%), excellent LOR's, good interview, solid ec's, first gen student.....

but okay here's the deal...

I feel I can get rejected for these 3 reasons...

first, for performances i wrote "Alladin the musical" ofcourse aladdin is mispelled there.......

second, in the last sentence for my "favorite ec and why" section i typed "These obligations have taught me how to prioritize the needs of others my own" <--- forgot the word "over" before "my own"!!!!!!!!!! OMG........

third,my essay is pretty bad when i read over it -_________-....

sigh.... columbia is my dream school (why i ed'ed) and i don't want to get rejected for these 3 reasons... how likeely is it that the first 2 at least will hurt me a lot in my application????

my essay gets mixed responses... so not sure on that..

Ahhh that really sucks man. I don’t know for sure, but I’m assuming that they expect applications to be error-free…however, they may overlook it, if the rest of your application is good? Just hope for the best; there’s nothing you can do about it now.

The rest of my application is quite good. Still, it sticks out to me like a sore thumb… People have been telling me that they don’t even really care about the short answer/ec section anyway… is this a lie? Haha. Should I e-mail columbia telling them that my “over” got deleted or somethin…? I sent it 2 min before deadline so that would look bad though…

omg i had the same problem. 20 minutes before i planned to submit my application, i found out that i spelled TENNIS like TENNESS…like tennessee…
how weird.
but, luckily, i changed it.

i think you should send them an email to correct your mistakes.

do you really feel i should? i dont want to until i know that it will be the best move… people are telling me to just let it go, like they can assume i meant to put in “over”?

Technically you can call the office to tell them to append the changes to your application, but whether they’ll do so (a lot of times the person who picks up is just a work-study), and whether its good or not (it’ll probably just be a note in your file since they can’t actually go change your application, so it might make it stand out more) is uncertain. Just don’t worry about it, its very likely that people who think they have error-free applications probably have made some errors too.

Okay thank you guys a lot. This relieves stress. I haven’t been able to sleep much these days I’m so worried… and I read over my essay and it sucks so much. Sigh…

Dude don’t worry about it. I totally understand you because I misspelled a word too.
I freaked out when I discovered it but there is really nothing
you can do about it. I mean the app is done and submitted. You
cannot go back and change. So let’s just calm down and accept the situation.
Who knows you might get accepted regardless. Even if you don’t
there are thousands of colleges who might want you.
