How important are typos to applications!?!?!?!?

Give their admissions office a call. They’re all customer service reps so it’s not going to affect your application. Ask them how much it makes a difference. I don’t know if they’ll be able to tell you, but it’s better than nothing, right?

Will do. Do you think it will harm my application? Sigh…

I doubt they’re going to care about, or even notice, a small error like that. They read the apps so fast that it’s almost irrelevant from what they’re looking for.

Are you sure they’re customer service? I thought they were all ad reps.

Hopefully man! I’m a real worry wart when it comes to Columbia. But what ****es me off the most is I feel like my essay totally sucks ass. Hopefully my stats (except CR…shieeet) and gpa and ED and everything else is enough.

I think my only problems are these 2 typos, my 690 CR score, and my average essay. Sigh… sorry for being such a baby guys…haha

i think all applicants have a problem.

there are only so many spots available…

even with no typos, a 2300, a great essay, and great credentials all around, there is no guarantee (or even anything close to a guarantee).

It depends. You’re an early decision applicant so they may smile upon you. But in general, an admissions officer will not look kindly at a collection of errors such as that. One error? No big deal. But multiple ones is troubling. The reality of it is that your essay is what matters, and if that isn’t good enough then you’re in trouble.

Okay thanks for your input. I feel that all I can do from here is just wait, assume the worst and hope for the best:] there is really nothing I can do. Except start on my regular applications because I will most likely get rejected hahaha!

I went to a college presentation and the representative from Columbia said that her greatest pet peeve is typos in essays. :frowning: sorry dude

I didn’t put a typo in my essay. Just my short 300 character response for my favorite EC activity.

Yeah, to be honest, you give conflicting reports. You say Columbia is your dream school, that you spent so much time on the application, yet there are more than one mistakes. Something’s not right here…

only 2 mistakes. Spelled Alladin wrong because i thought it was spelled that way all along until someone pointed it out after it was too late.

Left out a word because i imagined it to be there in my mind and didn’t give it second thought… everything else is gramatically clean though…

You have impressive stats, so I’m sure you have a good chance at being accepted. However, this should teach you to proofread. My family friend is on the Harvard admissions board and she says that simple typos can be your undoing, especially at an exceptionally competitive school like Columbia. Gotta be frank, those typos were pretty sloppy, and this was your app to an Ivy League…good luck.
