How important do you think test scores are to Dartmouth?

Hey everyone. I know that this is a question often-asked, but how do test scores compare to other parts of the application at Dartmouth (in your opinion)?

My grades are solid and I have a few extra-curriculars (nothing special at all though). However, I have awesome test scores:

SAT (superscore): 2370 (800, 770, 800)
SAT II Math II: 770
SAT II World History: 790
SAT II Chemistry: 800
SAT II US History: 800

So, how much do you think that test scores affect a decision at Dartmouth?

If you are asking whether you will get in on scores alone, no.

Do excellent scores help? Of course.

Test scores exclude, not include. Simply put, low test scores will keep you from getting admitted, but high test scores will only let you pass one of several checkboxes.

What exactly is considered a “good enough” test score? Is there such a brightline?

I’ve heard that Dartmouth is more similar to a liberal arts college than are the other Ivies. How does this factor into their admissions process, if it does?

Only 38.6% with 800 critical reading were admitted. That’s far better than 11.5% overall, but certainly no guarantee.

spunaugle knows what he/she is talking about. you need test scores, but they’re not going to get you in. i hope your write essays well. If the rest of your application is solid, you get in with those test scores.

Test scores won’t help you much. The recommendation and essay are two key components to your app. Find a good friend who not necessarily have to be a great writer but should nonetheless have a sincere voice, you’ll be thankful later!
