How important is a lunch?

Take the lunch (it will be less competition for me, YES!), it will only be good for you my friend for you will nourish your mind with food so it can be nourished with knowledge more easily.

I'd give up the lunch, just buy a few snacks during the day to keep you from getting hungry.

Geez, forget lunch, just eat during class. =]

that's what I do anyway.

Lunch is the whole point of going to school.

DUDE DITCH LUNCH! I did frosh year and haven't looked back! Srsly, its not that awful not having a lunch.

You have to take lunch! Even if you're doing something fun like an art, lunch will help you wind down and give you enough energy for the rest of the day. In my school, everything is scheduled around having a lunch period each day b/c teachers know its really important.

Lunch!!!!!!!!!!!

Lunch is required for everyone at my school. You either take A, B, C or D lunch during our 3rd block. Each is 30 minutes long, and only gives enough time to eat and maybe do a little hw, but only procrastinators and nerds do hw during lunch.

nah, last year and this year i've had a lunch period only every other day. next year (as a senior) i dont have any. i'd rather give up my lunch per. and be able to relax a lil bit more than the ppl around me in college, even if i have to take the class again in college. at least i'll know the material already and dont have to study as much as the others there

Ummm... take a lunch. Do you really think colleges are going to notice the difference?

Wow... I never knew you could not take a lunch... our school makes us take a lunch if we're full time students (not post secondary or early work release seniors). For me, lunch is sometimes the best part of the day since since I eat with some pretty goofy people & it's nice break between morning & afternoon classes.
Bottom line? Take a lunch... your stomach (and sanity!) will thank you later.

do you want to starve?!

i eat in any class i want to..so its actually pretty nice 8)

The OP isn't doing this to impress colleges, as many have stated. He/she just wants an extra period to take a class that they will enjoy and really wants to take for his own personal enrichment. Some people said that he should take lunch because it's a time to unwind and get ready for the rest of the day...at my school and many others, some have lunch at 10 AM, and some at 2 PM. If lunch's purpose is to relax and unwind, they aren't exactly getting its full benefits, are they? Also, people said that the OP needed to eat. Well, that's a given. In schools that offer 'no lunch', all the teachers know that some people will need to eat during their classtime. Granted, some will say no, but many, given the circumstances, will allow students snacks and maybe even a full lunch. Eating snacks throughout the day is better for you than waiting for lunchtime anyway. With proper planning, the OP is not going to starve. Also the extra class (ceramics) does not seem to entail any extra workload, so it's not like it's going to make his schedule any harder. And for those who said lunch is the only time they have to socialize, well, I feel sorry for your social lives.

In my experience lunch has been more important as a period for doing clubs/kissing up to teachers/running random errands than as an actual eating period (my teachers let me eat in class). So I suppose the question of whether you absolutely must take lunch or not can be reduced to

(1) will your teachers let you eat in class?
(2) do you need lunch hour to run random errands? do any clubs at your school meet during lunch?

For the record, I have a lunch (period 6 out of 8) but I usually go to the library and chill with my friends because the lunchroom smells awful. Next year, I will not have a lunch for half the year in order to take pe- required to graduate.

(1) I usually split my lunch up between 3rd and 4th periods. We are explicitly not allowed to eat in 5th and 7th periods. Everyone else doesn't care.

(2) I do my math hw during lunch, but that's me being lazy. Sometimes I do interviews for newspaper during lunch as well. No clubs meet during lunch, because everyone has different lunches, so it would never work out. Many students skip lunch to go out and purchase food illegally, or to visit other amicable teachers and hang out in their rooms.

hm...i feel like answering those two questions as well.

(1) Most of them do. They're pretty chill about it.
(2) Uh..of course. That's all i do during lunch, homework. I really don't like doing work at home so i just copy it then. I would die without that half hour.

It's actually extremmmely common for someone at my school to not have a lunch. during lunch periods (4, 5, 6) teachers are forced to allow you to eat in their class (unless its chemistry or gym). This is because 1) there would otherwise not be enough space for everyone to eat lunch and 2) it gives kids the opportunity to take electives.

I haven't had lunch since freshman year...i feel its a waste of time. But no, I DON'T take another AP instead or something. Freshman year I had a study hall where I could do hw, eat lunch/snacks, or play cards with friends more comfortably because its in a smaller and less loud environment. This year I took fun electives I'm interested in....architecture and fashion design. I eat during these classes and am able to both get credit and get experience doing things I like.

Wow I can't believe someone would even considering not having lunch for a class.

I don't eat breakfast or lunch, so I would take the extra class.
