Like everyone else, I am in the process of putting together a list of safetys, matches, and reaches. Scrolling down lists of schools, I realized that I was reluctant to apply to a school if I was really not fond of its name, even if it's a pretty good fit in terms of major and what it has to offer.

Is anyone else feeling the same?

It's subjective for everyone, but wouldn't it be difficult to be happy at a school (next 4 years of life) if I can't even bring myself to tolerate the name? or am I thinking too much into it? :(

This is a good question in my opinion, college is a place where you will spend the next 4-5 years of your life and is a very important building block to your career. No shame in wondering if the money and time is all worth it for a lesser known school. The answer to your question is no, it does not matter. The name is just a name, once you realize there are just as good schools just smaller, the better off you will be. You never know, a smaller school with a not as well known name might have the better program simply because it’s more personal other reasons. There are many pros and cons of smaller schools that don’t bare the huge name of bigger universities, you just have to see if you can accept that and learn to love wherever you choose to go! Don’t be hypnotized by the big name schools sometimes you will see that better things come in smaller packages. If you think your school is lesser in value because of the lesser known name you need to realize that’s not true. Hope this advice helped in your choice of institution!

My husband has a funny-sounding name; one of those names that’s always given to the goofy, comic-relief character on TV shows. If you’d asked me 25 years ago if I’d ever date a man with that name, I would’ve said no. Good thing I gave him a chance, because I ended up liking him pretty well!
