How Important is a Rice Interview

I just received an interview request from a Rice alum who lives 3 hours from me. How important is an interview for the Rice applications? Does it worth traveling 3 hours back and forth just for an interview?

Should I deny this offer or accept the interview?

Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

Hello there!

I just wanted to know did you get an interview request after you submitted your application? Are you applying ED or RD?

I personally think you should go for the interview. I guess it wouldn’t hurt your chances.

You can request an interview on the Rice website even if you haven’t submitted your app. I am applying RD and I haven’t submitted my app yet. I am just wondering how important the Rice interview is. Does it worth driving three hours back and forth just for the interview?

I can’t imagine that anyone expects you to travel 3 hours for an interview or think less of you if you didn’t. Perhaps the interviewer could conduct it via Skype?

agree with blackeyedsusan. Interviews can be beneficial, but they are not required. I did not have one when I applied as I was out of the country at the time, for example. If you want the interview, contact the interviewer or Rice and let them know that 3 hours each way is a little much and see if they can do something for you.

Good Luck!

Meet 1.5 hours away? I think that is better than snubbing an interviewer or not conducting an interview. Just a thought.

I wouldn’t suggest to the interviewer that they drive 1.5 hours. They already make lots of sacrifices. Take Antarius’s advice…

If you let them know in advance, it is not snubbing. I am sure they will be understanding.
