I'm currently a 2nd year Undergrad Accouting major. I want to know is MBA really needed? Does it really increase our salary? How does it increase our salary? I don't want to end up paying like 100k to get an MBA and have nothing change for my career

From what I understand, an MBA is very helpful in career progression and promotion, especially in your field of study.
However, some people also use an MBA as a career change and I believe if this someone’s goal, they’ll try to attend a top-ranked b-school.

MBA is critical in advancing your career. But it will not get your foot in the door. You have to do that yourself.

In some industries, it is actually a hinderance to getting your foot in the door. Companies are hesitant to hire someone with outside training, fearing that it will clash with how they want to train you.

My suggestion is to intern with the company you would like to work for before graduation. It is a foot in the door, which will help your chances drastically once you graduate and are looking for a job. These companies tend to hire their interns full time after graduation because you are already familiar with their process, culture, work ethic, etc.

Having an accounting major is very useful in itself. Are you going to pursue the CPA license? If so, I know many CPA’s who are partners in Big4 accounting firms without pursuing an MBA degree.

Study hard, get good grades and work for a good accounting firm for a few years and then see if you still need an MBA to progress in your field. In many cases, when people get stuck in a glass ceiling, it’s really due to their (poor) performance more than a lack of advanced degrees.

However, some get their MBA’s because of a desire for career change, then it’s a different story.

Not that important.

But useful–esp. opening doors and giving you access to networks.
