how important is ap scores in college admission

It really depends in my opinion. Basically, if you do well, send them to the schools, if you don't, just never send them, schools generally will look more on your grades for the class as opposed to a one sitting exam, but hey, if you do well on both, go for it. Also, and this is a personal side note, last year there was somewhat of a scandal in our AP Chem class, and the school had left us w/o a teacher for the rest of the year (mind you this is november). Thus 27 students had been abandoned. Personally, I chose to take it upon myself and teach myself the entire curriculum, and I ended up getting a five. So when I sent this to schools it really helped (even got a personalized letter from Yale when accepted commenting on my self-teaching). So yeah, it's just whether or not you can use it to your advantage.

I think so. They're somewhat important. I mean, when I talked to different people in admissions, they say it can be good for someone who doesn't do well in another aspect of their application. If their math score SAT is like 650, but they get a 5 on the AP Calc BC exam, then they know they can do math at least.

I've talked to teachers who have talked to ivy league school type admissions counselors and they all said that the most important things on a transcript are AP Classes and AP Exam Grades. A High grade in an AP class shows you can understand college level work, and a high exam grade ( 4 or 5) shows that you can perform at college level.
