How important is APUSH?

I'm taking five APs this junior year. The one class I'd like to replace is APUSH, with regular US History. This would allow me to spend more time on the other four, however the majority of students I know are taking or have taken APUSH.

I also plan on doing track, which would be time consuming.

Would colleges look down on the lack of an AP History?

Thanks for reading!

No, not taking APUSH is absolutely fine. Especially with all the other APs

Thats completely fine. Do what you can handle.

EDIT: Please don’t post the same question multiple times.

No they wouldn’t It’s great that you’re still taking US History though because it’s good to know how our country was formed.

I am a junior this year and this is my schedule:
Spanish II (didn’t take spanish freshman year due to transportation conflict)
AP Calc BC
AP Chemistry
Orchestra
AP Lang and Comp
AP Art History
APUSH

I’d like to drop APUSH and just take a regular US History class so I can spend more time on the other four APs. However, I am worried that dropping an AP class that almost everyone I know is taking as well will screw me over in terms of how colleges will look at my schedule. Last year I took AP Euro and got a 4, but while I found European History interesting, I’m not so sure about US. Not to mention I’d also like to do track second semester.

I could try and take all 5 APs this year, but I’m unsure if I’m ready for the workload and if I’d really want to dedicate some time to APUSH when I could be dedicating it to subjects I actually like. (I’d want to do really well in four classes than “just get by” in five)

I guess what I’m asking is: Will not taking APUSH be looked down upon by colleges?

Thanks for reading!

Merged the two threads.

Depends on the university, here in California for UCs and CSUs, it’s a requirement on it’s own that you take US History in college, and you can take that requirement if you passed the AP Exam for the majority of those institutions. As for the rest of the thousands of other colleges, not sure - I would check their site and see if it’s useless or not.

Now, if the question is that will they look down upon you, heck no. Your schedule is superior, especially Calculus leading the way. Personally I would drop AP Art History and do AP US History instead and take another break class but that’s just me.
