Right now I have the option of taking an Honors Calculus class or an Intro to Tech and Engineering class. I really don’t know what to do. I’m not completely sure if I want to pursue engineering, but I love woodworking and building stuff. I was interested in civil, architectural, or mechanical engineering. I think taking the tech and engineering class would give me a better idea of weather or not I like engineering. So what is my best option?
the engineering class would give you a better idea about engineering but calculus is very important in engineering. Colleges would prefer to see the rigor of the calculus class compared to the engineering class but if you could take one and then the other later that would be a better option.
I can only take one
What math course would you be taking if you didn’t take calculus? If you would not be taking a math course otherwise, then it is much better to take calculus than the engineering course.
You should take calculus then. It looks better and is part of the foundation of skills needed to be an engineer.
Universities generally give a gentle introduction to engineering in year one - being exposed to the different majors is not really a primary concern. Concern yourself more with seeing whether or not you can actually learn the necessary skills - calculus is pretty central to that.
I say take the calc class. Honestly that is what will give you a better idea about whether you will like engineering classes.
