I wanted to ask this question to the person thats coming to my school from UF but she/he is coming the 21st.

Definitely still ask them, but in my opinion, it’s a combo of class rank, GPA, SAT/ACT scores, EC activities, everything. I was the valedictorian of my school, but I still didn’t get into UF when I applied as a freshman. -shrug- I’d say there’s no sure-fire guarantee. Probably a combination of everything. Good luck! :)

my D got into UF last year she was # 9 out of 145 students.

@ oreos and milk, what where your other stats? did you go to a small school? Did you not write your essay?

Also im asking because im in the top 5% of my class, just found out. I was hearing rumors that UF picks the top 5% of a school, i dont think they do, but do they?

joker, my college advisor told me they take the top 5% and go from there. unfortunately im like 12% because i go to a highly competitve public school, which is why i still feel like there is still hope.

They used to take the top 5% but now it is not cut and dried. If you are in the top 5% it ups your odds considerably but is no guarantee (as oreosandmilk so clearly showed us above).

@seiclan, when did they stop doing that?
Also I was looking at the “at a glance” description of UF, and only 76% of UF freshmen Undergrads were in the 10% of their class, what gives?

Im worried because I have a 3.93 UF GPA, this means they will round it to a 3.9. I know that UF likes students with a 4.0 UF GPA but I am in the top 5% percent, will they overlook my gpa?

Joker, what did you get on the SAT/ACT?

I did really bad, I got a 1230, I took it again in Oct but i bubbled a whole section wrong. Taking it again in Nov, practicing on my test taking skills because I get anxious when im testing and make stupid mistakes, but on the PSAT I got a 72-R 68-M and a 690-W. Hopefully in Nov I wont make any stupid mistakes and get at least a 1300.

I’m going to take a guess and say that your GPA and class rank might be good enough if you do really well on your SAT.

can you give me an estimate on what I would need? a range?

Joker, you are in the upper-end of the bottom 25% when it comes to GPA:

[University of Florida - Admissions](Freshman - How To Apply - University of Florida)

You MIGHT be ok if you can got a score in the top 25% for SAT/ACT (ie greater than 2060). But this is pure speculation. I would suggest searching in the UF forum for students with similar GPA as yours and see what SAT/ACT scores they needed to get in order to get accepted.

Well, I was 1/481. 4.0 UF GPA… I’m an out-of-state student, so I thought I’d have that going for me. Mediocre on my SATs; 1300. I really put a lot of time into my essay… I’m not sure what it was that kept me back. I’m gonna say it was my SAT scores. :/

But I think…if you’re strong overall, you have a good chance. Again, UF is not good to get solid on until you have that acceptance letter or the online notification. Best of luck! I hope it works out for ya! :)

OHHHH, you are OOS, yeah they’re really hard on OOS students, thats why.

I was top 5% in a class of over 400, but they told me I was only accepted if I went for summer B. This was 5 years ago, I would imagine that it’s much harder now and that I would not have been accepted today.

If the school is larger is that better? because I go to a school of 760 something students.

i dont think larger would be better, but they probably consider your school ranking. like for me, im ranked 76th with a 4.1, but my school, even though its public, is like 86th in the country in terms of ap tests passed so being that i go to a pretty tough school i hope they take that into account (76th puts me at about top 12%)

I’m not a student at UF, as a matter of fact I’m in the same boat as you guys (applying for 2010), but class rank shouldn’t be your concern. Take a look at these threads from admissions in 2008 and 2009, you’ll see that a lot of people that got accepted definitely weren’t in the top 5%, and there were a bunch that weren’t even in the top 10%.

We have plenty of things to worry about (grades, resume, essay, sat scores, etc), but class rank definitely isn’t one of them.

:)

Actually in the 2013 decisions thread they seem to put some importance on it, the people that were not in the top 10% of their class had some good ecs, and were minority students. Also does race have something to do with the admission process? Im 1/2 hispanic. My dad is colombian but whiter than my mom (white,) lol.
