How important is counselor statement?

I applied early action, but my counselor statement is still missing. My counselor sent it in twice, once before the original deadline and once after they said I should send it again. I am trying to get her to send it in a 3rd time to the email that an admissions officer told me, but the decisions come out really soon and she's not responding to my emails.

I have all the grades and scores and extracurriculars and a wonderful teacher recommendation, but I do not know how important the counselor statement is. I am expecting to get in and enroll, as UNC is my top choice, but I am very worried that I will be denied because I am missing my counselor statement, even though it is not my fault at all.

Does anybody know if this will seriously hinder their decision? And if it does, do you think they'll put me in the regular decision pool?

Calllll them and explain your situation!

I have called and emailed several times and they haven’t been very helpful, I assume because they’re swamped with applications. The last time I called, I got an email for my counselor to send the statement to for a third time, but I have not been able to contact my counselor and decisions come out on the 21st. I don’t know if I will be able to get it in on time.

Do you think it will make a huge difference? All my academic information is on my application already, and my teacher recommendation made my mom cry it was that good. I’m just worried that I will be denied because of something that is completely the fault of the admissions office.

I would suggest a very nice post on the UNC admissions blog … asking for guidance. Our experience was that records weren’t always updated with the items, it took a few weeks for them to record what was in or missing.

Yep, they even tell you that may be the case.

College Board sent them DS’s Latin SAT II score (800, mama-brag-brag) in late December. it has yet to be posted at MyUNC. :p

the counselor portion is important and I believe that the admissions panel will not even review your application if you are missing a required portion. This is why you need to get on the UNC admission’s case b/c this could be severe. I recommend asking the adm ppl to transfer you to one of their counselors. They might tell you to contact them the next week (so to wait for the rec to reach them). You are in a situation where you cannot partake in the fault, so I suggest you discuss this matter upfront and continue to keep your contact with UNC. I’m assuming you are first deadline; therefore, it is crucial that you take measures desperately and keep requesting your counselor and university to update their work.

Well, I’m a great believer in pestering bureaucrats till they give you a straight answer, LOL. (Just be super-polite, of course.)

You should have your counselor call them, as well.

My counselor submitted it through the UNC site, emailed it, and then called. It’s finally submitted. I just hope this doesn’t mess up their decision this late in the admissions process!
