Hi!
I am applying to Vanderbilt RD with a 3.9 unweighted GPA (4.6 weighted) and a 33 on my ACTs. I have a lot of extracurricular activities and work experience; I think I am a good applicant for Vanderbilt (a bit of a reach, maybe). However, I have not visited at all. I did attend a meeting with my regional rep at my High School, (but so did everyone else applying from my competitive MA school).
Should I visit in the coming months? And by what date? How should I go about showing more interest? It really is a top choice for me, but I just haven’t visited yet because flying is expensive (and they say they understand that, but I don’t think they really do)!!
How can I better secure an acceptance through showing interest?
My daughter was accepted for the Class of 2018, and we did not visit until Admitted Students day in the Spring. I think a lot of people who live far away are not able to visit all of their schools until after they are accepted. We are from FL and my daughter applied at 10 schools (and only two were in FL and driveable). We were able to visit a couple of the New England schools before acceptances because we have family there. She was wait listed at a few places so we didn’t visit those. We ended up going to 3 Admitted Students events. After going to Vanderbilt, she decided it was the one. She is a sophomore there and loves it!
I’d second what previous comment said: don’t waste your time & money visiting just to “demonstrate interest”, it won’t matter at all. Your academic credentials are obviously pretty good, and it sounds like you have a well-rounded profile, so you have a pretty good shot at admission. Good luck. (My son, also from a competitive school in MA, is currently a Jr, and loves VU & Nashville.)
