Could one still receive a fairly good score for an incomplete essay? I thought I was doing fairly well, and had nice, concrete idea going, I just hope got enough down on the paper for that to come across.
I was extremely disappointed, though not surprised, in the 6 I got the last time I took the SAT, but was positive I could improve, since it was awful and I didn't come close to finishing. I'm not sure if I wrote much more this time either.... hopefully it's of better quality?
So, anyone know how they view incomplete essays?

I don't know about that but I think you should learn to manage your time better. I'd imagine a average written essay will recieve more points then a well written uncompleted one. However, this was my first time taknig it so I really can't be for sure. Good Luck!!

It depends on how far you got on your essay. I didn't do a conclusion because of a lack of time, and just added a conclusionary last sentence when the proctor called 1 minute left. I got a 12 on the essay, and a 790 on the Writing portion.

However, if you stopped before you touched on all of your points, don't expect a stellar score.

Last time I had an intro + one body paragraph when the proctor said that there were five minutes left... I changed the intro to make it sound like the body paragraph had all of my main points and added like a two sentence conclusion.

got a nine... lame. but I never score well on timed essays.

i doubt it. the max you will probably get is an 8 or something

Whoah... don't let these guys discourage you.

I've taken the SATs three times now. The third time was today. The first time, I only got my intro, one full body paragraph, and half a body paragraph. No conclusion, but I filled up both pages and stopped when I ran out of room. I got an 11.

The second time, I wrote an intro, one full body paragraph, and half a body paragraph again. Again, I had no conclusion and filled up both pages and stopped when I ran out of room. I got a 10.

And this time, I did the exact same thing, and I'm expecting a decent score.

Don't worry! If you wrote well and did the best that you can do, then I'm sure you didn't do as badly as you think.

:-)

i didnt finish and got a 10 last time

good, great, grand.

hmm okk. well. whatevskies. at least i have the satisfaction of saying never again in my life will i take that ridiculous test.

hmmm.
i put wrong name for a scientist :(
does it matter? T_T

i just needed to write 2 words in my conclusion...does that cause any complications?

from what i hear alot of ppl at my school is that it has to do with critical mass, write alot and some flaws may be forgiven. then again, i got an 11 with only an intro and one body, no conclusion

I didn't write a conclusion and got an 11. Filled up 1.75 pages.

Why the h*** would they only give us 2 pages?
The proctor said something like third pg
I kept going until I realized she meant Page number 3.

Would just having 2 pgs filled guarantee a 8+ score?

How would they treat writing in the margin?

Unfinished essays look bad. I remember when I took my first practice SAT test (not PSAT, this was administered by the school) back in 10th grade, I didn't finish the essay. It looked like this (ex):

"And as this is why George Washing...." and I just skipped to the conclusion because I knew I didn't have time to finish the paragraph.

I got a 6. lol

I was in the middle of a sentence when time was called yesterday. (Dec. 1 SAT)
I had an introduction and two body paragraphs. I was finishing the 2nd body paragraph when I ran out of time... I hope I get a good score. :(
I thought that a well-written unfinished essay was better than a rushed, undeveloped complete essay. We'll see.

OP: I'm pretty good with essays, and the one for my first SAT sitting went pretty well but I didn't have time for a conclusion, and it was REALLY hanging because I wrote two words of the conclusion and nothing else, got an 8. the next two times I made sure to manage my time better, and got a 12 and a 11.

If you don't have time for a conclusion, or at least even a sentence, at least don't even START a new paragraph - it'll look very obvious that you managed your time badly. Leave it at the last complete paragraph, and they may take it as a "stylistic ending" xD

Jcubed: I spelt Mother Teresa as "Theresa", got an 11. How badly did you misspell?
