How important is fit?

I agree about talking with your parents about what you feel will be best for you. But I do caution against getting your heart set on one or two schools being “the ones” before M10. There are many stories here about kids who ended up at the school that loved them instead of the ones they had initially fallen in love with and it has worked out wonderfully for them.

@AppleNotFar Yeah, I understand. I love all the schools I’m applying to, though. I’ve had three lists of schools to apply to: the first had almost thirty schools and the second had fifteen. I finalized the second into my current list of nine schools. I’d picked the schools that I loved most, and two or three that had good college matriculation and academics. I’m not going to be (severely) disappointed by my M10 decisions even if I got rejected by all except one. My interviewers did a great job of painting their schools in the best light!

“I love all the schools I’m applying to” <:-P

Fit is important, however in large part, you don’t pick the school, they pick you. Admission to great schools is very competitive, and although you may see yourself at one of these top schools, they may have so many great students to choose from, that they don’t choose you. In the end, see what choices you have, and go with your gut. Love the school that loves you.

 Thanks again, everyone!

@preppedparent : I agree. And often that love is expressed in financial aid awards.

Remind your parents that it is perhaps especially important for international students to attend schools with kind, comfortable, homelike communities. Blair is probably an excellent choice from that standpoint, from what I have heard.

@brassarrow and other students - if your parents have not yet visited the school, another factor may emerge on Revisit Day if you are far from home: How easy is it for parent (eg anxious mom) to get to you? If there is no daily flight, or if it’s a 3 hour drive to through dark woods or unlit roads, your parent may think differently about choices.
This can be a parent factor of “fit” L-)

@Golfgr8 Haha, my country is actually thousands of miles from the US. My parents would probably only visit me in summer breaks, and maybe in winter breaks (they also have to visit my sister in NC). We’re so busy we don’t have any time for revisit days. Exams for me, and work for my parents.
