I need to decide whether to take AP physics next year or AP french....what would look better to Umich?

Well, there is a foreign language requirement at Michigan where everyone in LSA has to have at least fourth term proficiency. If you take AP French, you may be better prepared for the placement exam at orientation and be more likely to test out of the requirement and/or place into an upper level class. (No, the AP exam does not take the place of the placement exam at orientation.) However, it really depends on what your interests are. You may very well want to study a freeign language in college or test out of the requirement. However, you may also what to study the sciences in which case AP Physics may be more beneficial. I don't think taking AP French would look any better than AP Physics on an application.

If you think you can get a 4 or a 5 on AP french, definately take it because it'll get you out of the foreign language requirement (assuming your placement test is decent of course). If you're planning on doing a science/engineering major, I'd suggest taking AP physics.

Honestly, I got into Illinois, USC, BU, and waitlisted at Cornell and Stanford with no foreign languages at all

it'll basically just clear up space in your schedule so you can take classes you really want.

yeah, im not really sure that i can do well on the french AP but i think i can manage a 4 or a 5 if i take physics...i am planning on doing BME/pre-med, so i think its a good idea to take physics, i have 2 years of french already and i can pick up french again my senior year, but i dont want to leave a year in between reg. physics and AP because it will be harder to pick up...what im most worried about is how it will look on an application if i drop french and take too many science/math classes...but you if you guys think they wont care either way, i should prbly just take physics

In my experience, AP Physics was a bit easier than AP French, and I had 4 years of French behind me. I think the AP Phys will prepare you more for a Pre-Med background so you can place into a higher physics class, and then you'd still be able to place out of probably a full year or two in French, assuming you have a decent memory.

Yes, I agree. Take ap physics.
