I am currently a Freshman with pretty a bad GPA, (90% Unweighted, two 80s on the Bio Regents and Geometry Regents). Will this bad year for me greatly impact my chances to go to a selective college?
Not if you improve next year and keep it up for the rest of high school.
Freshman year is pretty crucial, but as long as your GPA isn’t drastically low, then I’m sure you can bring it up by the end of high school if you maintain good grades in the future.
It’s important, but you’ve still got 3 more years to bring it up. Don’t get discouraged. If you increase as the years progress, it’ll show that you can grow. If you are applying to schools like Harvard or even U Chicago, it will impact your chances, since you will probably be competing against boys and girls who got 4.0s freshmen year.
Thank you for all of your input!
Freshman year is an important year, but it’s not as important as your next two years. If you can drastically improve your GPA for sophomore, junior, and even senior year, you’re golden.
