How important is it to... (APUSH)

On the APUSH exam, how important is it to?

Include exact dates in the essays?

Know individual battles (the unimportant ones)?

Know every single waking election?

I’ll think of more as I go along.

You’re so awesome. Thanks a lot. Are you a APUSH teacher?

Very helpful Tarheel Teacher. Thanks!

Wow - thanx! Can you make a list of things we need to know about Native American history.

if you wouldn’t mind can you make a list for the period after the progressive movement(WW1 2 fdr etc.)

1) no
2) no
3) no

you’re fine. people can get 5s on this without being history professors.

Basically can you just do the new deal- since I’m on ch.21 on amsco and i want to look out for key terms for future ch. Thanks

wow thanks again. you are very helpful

The New Deal helped stabilize the economy but the depression didn’t end until WWII started. So WWII was what pulled the U.S. out of the Great Depression.

I would also add Margaret Sanger to the list of key women to know

“Mother”, if you will of the modern birth control movement.

Also with regard to the New Deal, I would be sure to know FDR’s court packing plan and that Dr. Francis Townsend’s desire for monthly payments to older Americans contributed to the passage of the Social Security Act.

@ Tarheel Teacher again, do you have any predictions for this year’s DBQ?

bumpity bump bump :)

What else is important to know? Just a few general things?

How much does spelling/grammer affect your scores on the essays? If it is legible but still rather egregious will it hurt my score?. (LD but college board does not offer spell check for any reason)

oh also, Tarheel, will you post something about the characteristics for the 1st colonies/colonists that came to the Americas, most importantly the English ones and what contributed to the success/failures? if it’s too broad, please say so :D

@JenovaSide, what my teacher has frequently said about spelling and grammar: “Make sure you spell the events, people, court cases, idealisms, political parties, etc. correctly, the more you do, the more they know that YOU know the subject!”

I’ll post more in detail butI repeat-- MILITARY HISTORY IS NOT IMPORTANT.

Does anyone know if it is absolutely necessary to include the first name of any person mentioned in a FRQ or DBQ. In my essays I often simply write President Lincoln (which I figured wouldn’t be a problem) but my teacher says its a big deal–which I understand for like President Bush (which one ya know?). However, if I mention Marshall (of the Marshall Plan) is it necessary that I include his first name George? It seems superfluous.

it may seem superfluous, but like what i said to Jenovaside, it tells the FRQ graders that you ACTUALLY know the stuff rather than have them think “Oh, this person got lucky just because the name was in the document,” etc. but more importantly, if you were to write about the creation of the Monroe Doctrine, you wouldn’t say it was Monroe that proposed it, twas John Q. Adams. hope i answered your question.

FYI, I’m pretty sure that Tarheel Teacher is quoting or paraphrasing the Crash Course, which is as you can see a pretty awesome book. It’s really helpful!
