Say, if I am going to apply next year to transfer, how important is it to have the pre-reqs completed by fall so that I could have the grades to show on my application? I know it is crucial to have my pre-reqs completed by spring prior to transfer, but how will UC's evaluate my application if I only have a course listed as planned, but have yet to take it? For competitive majors like economics, if I miss for example a calculus course by fall, but am going to take it in spring, how is it going to affect my application? Thanks!

For impacted majors, completing pre-reqs by Fall is extremely important. Otherwise, generally, you can afford to miss some pre-reqs. But I recommend you try and complete them all by fall before transfer anyway.

bump. also interested in answers. How bad will it hurt me to not have completed one major pre req of an impacted major at UCLA? I just applied last month and will have the last major pre req completed next quarter (winter, and can not update grades so colleges will not know?)

It might not decrease your chances if you let the UCLA admissions office know that you completed the class and provide proof(If necessary) before they formally look at your application and decide to admit/reject you. Good luck.

You can definitely still get in without having completed all of the prereqs by fall. I don’t think that having one course listed as planned for spring will hurt you, but it just won’t provide you the benefit of having an A in the course to show in your application.

It’s extremely important to have all pre-reqs done by the fall, but remember it’s not required. LA and B do holistic review so don’t panic.

lol, UCLA is notorious for going by the numbers. UC Berkeley is the holistic campus in the UC system for transfer applicants.

Depends. If you have a 3.5 GPA, you have been averaging 12 units and you listed 20 units as planned in the Spring, probably not so good. But if you are averaging 17 units with a 4.0 and you list those same courses as planned then they probably won’t care.

For calculus and econ. Don’t just about every UC require Calc 2? So basically they’ll look at your Fall grade for Calc 1 as a guide to what you’ll get in Calc 2.

I wouldn’t stress too much about completing pre-reqs during Spring. Fall grades the UC will see, since it gets filled in during the January update.

My major was impacted, and I got in everywhere I applied (UCB, UCSD, UCI, UCSC). I had a ton of pre-reqs (2 CS classes, circuits, physics, english) completed during the winter/spring, so none of those grades were on the app when decisions came out. So it might matter a little bit, but honestly you shouldn’t worry if something is planned for Spring.
