How important is MIT's interview?

<p>From what I've heard, the interview is one of the most important parts of admittance.</p>

<p>Basically what I've heard is that every part of the application is important. If they are having doubts that you'll be a likable person, or will be able to work on a team successfully, then the interview might be a make-it or break-it sort of deal. Its holistic admissions, and its hard to really weigh how important one thing is or another. </p>

<p>I have a feeling that the higher % admittance for interviewed applicants is due to interviewed applicants being more driven and seeing MIT as realistic, while applicants who choose not to do an interview might see MIT as a reach school.</p>

<p>i think MIT's interview is probably more important than that for any of the Ivies, if that's what you are asking. i actually called penn the other day and they told me that alumni interview doesnt carry too much weight and its only a courtesy to the applicant.</p>

<p>i think its not so much how well u do at the interivew, but whether or not u request 1</p>

<p>I agree that this interview carries much more weight than the ivies, (well atleast Harvard and Princeton). My interviews for those 2 schools was short (less than an hour), and they really just wanted me to ask them questions about the school. My MIT interview lasted more than 2 hours and I really didn't even get a chance to ask a question.</p>

<p>^^ yeah, same here. Harvard's was a half an hour, and the interviewer wasn't interested in hearing me talk about things in-depth, even when I tried. My MIT interview was SO LONG and we covered SO MANY topics. Got into MIT, don't know about Harvard, but I can't imagine that interview having any influence in my decision, given that my interviewer spent most of the time answering my questions.</p>
