How important is my senior year schedule? Could it make or break my application?
Also, do all colleges require to see your first semester grades of senior year?
My current courseload (junior year) is
Aerospace Engineering
Anatomy+P
AP World History
AP Lang
AP Calc BC
AP Bio
I plan to major in biomedical engineering, or follow some path down the medical side.
My plan for next year is
Art (required to graduate)
Engineering Capstone
AP Lit
AP Chem
AP Physics
And AP Stat/Psych
Is my senior year schedule too hard or just right? I have a 3.9 unweighted, and I’m scared that if I get a couple B’s it will negatively affect my application (downward trend).
Also, would AP stat or AP psych be more beneficial to me considering my courseload and my future major?
Too hard/just right? That depends on your ability.
AP Stat or Psych? Either is fine – I’d choose base on personal preference or perhaps instructor reputation – I’d lean towards Stat just b/c it keeps a mathy class in the front of your mind.
If you didn’t want to take AP Chem and Physics that would be fine…there is no requirement/expectation you take all 3 AP sciences.
I agree with taking a mathy course …
I think minimally, AP chem would be good for the OP, since he/she wants to do a pre-med route. AP Physics, would be good if this is his/her knack too. (lots of info in AP Physics is useful in college level Chem)
Schedule is fine. If it were me, I’d try to find a dual-enrollment multivariable college course. Taking AP Calc BC as a junior is impressive, taking the next level of calc is even more impressive. D took AP psych and it was pretty easy. She also took AP Stats and thought it was a lot of busywork but for a potential biomed engineering major Stats may be just right. If you plan on getting into the very top colleges you should be concerned about keeping your 3.9 UW GPA. Looking at admissions statistics at the most selective colleges students with 3.9 or higher UW GPA’s do much better than students with even slightly lower UW GPAs
I was thinking about mentioning multivariable calculus, but the OP is already wondering if it is too hard.
I would say unless you are confident you would do pretty well (e.g., are you doig well in Calc BC now?) then
don’t take it.
