Now, i'm not the biggest "fit-in with society" kind of guy, but I do like to participate in the activities that my friends do. I was wondering how popular trips to go skiing are at Dartmouth and if it will be a (perhaps big) social problem that I probably can't do it--I have a repaired but weak left ACL (knee ligament that skiing stresses a lot). I guess this sounds dumb to ask, but seriously, I get the sense that most people at dartmouth ski, and that they ski fairly often. Thanks!

That's hardly accurate. Most people might ski once in a while, but on any given term you will find most people will have other things to do most of the time. And you will find that many of your friends will not be those that you ski with.

Haha, seriously. Not a big deal at all.

Haha, i guess im just worried I'll be the odd duck californian again. I dont really mesh well with a lot of the northeast people at my school right now -- ny, nj peeps...seriously lol
But thanks

lol worry about getting in first
the dartmouth people are incredibly cool
do what you love.. dont do somethin just to fit in ;)

im glad i live in wi now. no matter where i go i can fit in. i used to live in CA so im cool there, i live here so i can ski ect. also. it doesnt really matter though, you can make friends anywhere if you try to. besides dartmouth has enough people for you to not have to do everything everyone else does. besides not knowing how to ski might help..."hello miss attractive blonde would you please teach me how to ski"...wow that was a bad joke lol.

California has some lovely skiing though, in the Tahoe area...if you wanted to practice. I guess it's a bit far if you live in Southern CA though.

I'm from northern california but I am a transfer applicant so i live in GA now, and tahoe is like 6 hrs away.

I'm from NorCal and have a *****ty ACL too! I partially tore it last year playing basketball and it sucks, never really got back to full strength.

Pending our Dartmouth acceptances, we can rebel against skiing and do something way better. What, I do not know.

Skiing+Darmouth=wobbliness no? I know I couldn't ski straight after some pong

skiing is of course fairly popular here, but many, many students don't ski. I myself have only done it once. i think i've had 2 ski related conversations since coming here. people are involved in so many different things, only a few people have a chance to be really devoted to skiing. also remember, there are a fair number of kids here who saw snow for the first time this fall. seriously, be reassured, it really isn't that big of a deal.

Schlitz couldn't ski straight either. Well, you'll understand if you go here. I'm a current student, and I've had one very bad skiing experience. Will i pick it up? The jury's still out, but I don't feel "left out" as of right now.

There are a ton of people from California here. Don't worry about it.

california has some of the best skiiing in the country just so ya kno..

mmmm....heavenly, squaw valley, mammouth...you people on the west coast make me jealous!

lol, duh. but not everyone skis because its several hours away.

Hehe, Schlitz...

"Use the door, dumb@$$!"

vt is several hours away for me, 3.5-6 hours to be exact. that still doesnt stop me from going every other weekend.

if it wasnt for these stupid college apps, i would be up there next week :(
