How Important is Sleeping Bag Weekend

I'm applying to colleges this year and I'm planning to ED at Carnegie Mellon. I was going to visit two weeks from now and do an on-campus interview. However, one of my friends told me about sleeping bag weekend, and now I'm unsure if I should still visit.

I'd really like to do the interview and info session as soon as possible (at least before I write the supplement). The earliest dates for Sleeping Bag Weekend however are October 14-15. In addition, I'm not sure my parents will want to drive me to Pittsburgh again (or pay the $50.00 fee for Sleeping Bag Weekend). I really, really like Carnegie Mellon and I want to do everything I can to demonstrate interest.

Is there a significant advantage for attending Sleeping Bag Weekend over the normal tour and info session? If so, should I just postpone my trip?

I wouldn’t worry about it unless you think it would be fun or help you decide if it’s the right place for you. I only did the info session and tour before I applied, and from what I’ve heard from other freshmen, many either skipped the sleeping bag weekend or only did it after being accepted. If you want to show more interest, demonstrate it in your “why CMU” essay. That probably makes a bigger impact than just adding your name to a list anyway.

Thanks sorcelator. Great screename BTW.
