How important is Sophomore GPA to Ivies and other top schools

Hello everyone. How important is the sophomore GPA to ivies and other top schools like MIT, Duke and Stanford? I know the junior year grades are most important but how detrimental is it if your sophomore GPA was a 3.7 and your junior year GPA was a 4.0?

Improving your grades in more challenging courses is a good sign that you are stepping up your game. However all aspects of your application are going to be considered and looked at.

Stanford does not count your freshman year GPA. Its admissions is based upon your 10-11th grade GPA. So I would assume that your sophomore GPA is pretty important for Stanford.

Your entire culmulative GPA, as well as transcript rigor, is important. You don’t need a 4.0 but with top schools, the competition is fierce. Thus a 3.85 GPA student likely won’t fare as well as a 3.98 student, all other things being equal
