How important is taking a language?

I took spanish 1 in 8th grade, and spanish 2 and 3 in 9th and 10th. I'm not taking a language this year because I am instead taking electives in my career field. Most other people are still taking a language though. Will this hurt my application a lot?

I think 2-3 years are usually the amount Colleges "Recommend". I'm not an expert but I do think that being all-rounded helps.

Also, Depends on what university you're planning on applying to.

^ agreed. (10 chars)

More selective ones require 3. Few require 4, if any do. I would most definitely take three if you're applying to a selective school, but check the schools website.

Middle School doesn't count as a year.

Emory requires 2, but reccomends 3. Are you sure about middle school not counting as a year? My school send colleges the students' Spanish 1 grades. If it doesn't count as one, do you think it's a big deal? My chances at emory are slight reach right now.

What are the electives you're taking?

iPhone, I think Middle School does count. I just looked at JHU and it recommends 4 actually, while almost every other university I've come across recommend 2 or 3. So I still think it depends on the University.

BTW, What electives are you taking ?

My high school says that colleges won't accept Spanish 1 taken in 8th grade, but maybe it varies for each hs.

I don't think colleges accept a year of language taken during middle school. 2 years of spanish should be sufficient though.

Im taking AP Computer Programing, AP Statistics, and Entrepenuership
