How important is the 3rd (or 4th) year of Spanish?

I took Spanish 1 and 2 in middle school. Decided to retake Spanish 2 in 9th grade just in case I might have to take AP Spanish in 10th grade just to graduate. Now I'm in Spanish 3 and was wondering if taking AP Spanish next year worth it. The teachers next year are atrocious and would probably lead to another miserable year. That's why I don't want to take it unless it's absolutely necessary for admissions.
Another thing: would AP Spanish be considered 3rd or 4th year in this case?

bump

Not absolutely necessary. Only a few of the most selective colleges say they like to see 4 years of FL.

Assuming you’re doubling up on another core subject, it’s not 100% necessary. If your potential college has a foreign language requirement to graduate, it might be beneficial though to help you place out.

It would be considered 4th year.

HYP?

Harvard:

Yale:

Princeton:

Of course HYP is also super-selective. Not taking a 4th year will not be the reason one does or does not get in. Each school also has a foreign language requirement for graduation.
