Everyone these days is interested in getting into top notch colleges with great teachers, great academics etc, but you're not going to be sitting in class all day. So how important would the surrounding community be for one's college experience?

Something that has been appealing to me lately is attending college in a large city such as New York. But does living in a city make that much of a difference as opposed to a small town in the middle of say New Jersey?

Please share your experience! Any input is appreciated

Well, this is going to be your home for the next four years, so you'd better like the students there! So make sure you research not just the academics, but also the student body. What is the campus culture? Colleges will know if you don't fit in or not from your application, hopefully.

Consider the fact that if you attend college in a large city, you'll generally find less sense of community there than in a college in a small town, and sense of community may be very important to me. It depends on your goals in college and what student body will match your goals.
