How important is the essay for in-state honors colleges?

I'm applying to a whole bunch of schools; one in particular that I'm applying to is the University of Arizona (and its honors college).

My SAT score is a 2340 (740 Reading, 800 Math, 800 Writing)
My GPA is a 4.0 unweighted and a 4.82 weighted.

How much does the essay matter in an application to an in-state honors college like the one at UofA, considering these scores?

Can I get accepted with a mediocre or un-edited essay?

NO. You wouldn’t be admitted with an essay that does not reflect what the SAT/GPA combo suggests. An un-edited or poorly edited essay, in particular, would reflect badly on you, your school, your references, and would lead the officers to think you’re not taking the process seriously.
