How important is the Interview for Kenyon?

Title says it. I completed the interview and although it went very well, I can’t tell how important it is to the admissions process. My grades aren’t the particularly high, but I have a good ACT and I believe the interview went really well, so if the interview is a small part of the admissions process, then I don’t know how good my chances are. My essay was also pretty good but not exceptional so I am really relying on the interview and ACT essentially.

GPA: 3.2 out of 4 Unweighted (I know very low)
ACT: 33 Composite
EC: Very strong, volunteering, student council, many leadsership positions

Thanks in advance for any answers!

In another thread (University of Toronto), you listed your ACT score as 31.

Yes, University of Toronto does not super score. I made sure to ask the Kenyon rep that came to my school what my ACT will be calculated as, and she said it will be recalculated as a 33. I apologize as I should have made that more clear.

I suspect that the Kenyon interview is used primarily to gauge your interest in attending Kenyon College. A superscore of 33 ACT certainly makes you an attractive candidate for admission to Kenyon College. Not sure how many were admitted via ED, but your chances of admission should be above average based on your ACT score, in my opinion.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, I suspected that my ACT is above average but is not enough to make up for the gpa. But your response gives me some comfort that I at least have chance, thank you!

I don’t know, but I know this, every place my daughter was a middle 50 applicant, interviewed, and visited she has been accepted. Every place she just applied and was a middle 50 she was waitlisted.

@emptynesteryet Thank you so much. That helps a lot as I have visited and interviewed for Kenyon. Hopefully your daughter gets her first choice!

@Vikarious

She sends me acceptances as they come in, but still swears she doesn’t care where she gets in she is going to here small barely top 200 LAC in the middle of nowhere that she was accepted to forever ago.

Waiting for Kenyon though she didn’t interview, so if history holds true (waitlisted) lol.

Last year, my daughter with a 35 superscore and 3.9 unweighted GPA interviewed off-campus, visited campus and did an overnight was waitlisted. Many school activities and honors. She is happily at a much better fit for her (that has a much lower acceptance rate than Kenyon does). It all works out for the best.

@emptynesteryet I hope whatever decison your daughter makes works out for both of you! I’m not sure you can get waitlisted from regular decision however, so the upcoming decisions will most likely be acceptances/denials (hopefully an acceptance for your daughter and I).

@OneDown2ToGo That makes me very nervous as my stats aren’t nearly as high as your daughter’s. I’m glad your daughter found a college that is a better fit, however I truly hope you don’t quantify universities’ merit based on their acceptance rate.

@Vikarious No, I don’t base merit on acceptance rate at all - just what was the best fit for my daughter’s personality and interests. I was just pointing out that it’s hard to know what combination of things will lead to an acceptance (or waitlist).

@OneDown2ToGo You’re absolutely right. Colleges have gotten so competitive these days its hard to know what each college wants, its best to choose the one that you feel fits you best.

Scroll down to the last row of Section C7 for the answer to the title post’s question: (Answer: “Important”):

My own child’s experience tells me ‘very important,’ as he walked over from school to a cafe and spoke with the college interviewer for about 45 minutes (which I think is a long time). The interviewer was someone from the college, not a parent alum or volunteer. I think Kenyon wants to talk with the students, feel out who they are and how they think “up close.”

We did not hear anything about interviews there. We did tour twice, and once was just two weeks ago. Oh well - hoping for news soon.

@Waiting2exhale Wow, that’s some really detailed admission info. Thanks so much for that as that answered a lot of my questions and some.

@homejodi Good luck! I’m sure touring twice means you have demonstrated interest so I wouldn’t stress too much about not having an interview done.

@Vikarious : Good luck to you. Kenyon is a wonderful school. Glad to know your interview went well.
