How important is the interview?

Hi guys! I came back from my Kenyon Travel Grant, and I had such a nice time at Gambier! Everyone was so nice to me, and I did so many things there. I took a film and lit class by the way. Anyways, I was interviewed with a senior interviewer, and I felt a little worried about how the board will view this interview. After all, i'm just a junior, and how would they evaluate this? I don't think I showed enough enthusiasm for the college...but the fact that they got me on the travel grant is a show that they're interested in me, isn't it? I was just wondering how they'd take this interview and whether it would have been wiser to take it later on in my senior year or the end of junior. Thanks!

PS: Tell me about your interview experiences...how did you tackle the situation?

I didn't even have an interview and I got in regular admission with a scholarship. I didn't show much interst in Kenyon either (at least none that would be visible to the school.) I think having an interview as a junior automatically shows you're interested. Besides, interviews are generally supplements to applications. They don't have much impact on admission unless they are really bad (shouting curse words or something.)

How did you arange the travel grant? Did they invite you out there, or did you show interest first? I'm curious, as I know of a student who asked if Kenyon could help him pay for airfare to visit, and they said no.

From what I hear, a positive interview can help you, but a poor interview doesn't hurt much unless your behavior is really out of line.

Scurf, you might be right. After all, the interviewer was pretty impressed that I was going around looking at colleges alone so avidly at my age.

Rellielou, it's really strange that Kenyon refused your friend outright. I got referred by the Dean of Admissions after meeting her and chatting with her at a college fair and keeping in touch for a while. Then I had to fill out an application where I wrote an essay and filled out some info. I got a letter last month that I got the grant, and I went! I thought you first had to apply to the grant to be given it or refused it.
