How important is the math component?

I'm applying to a bunch of highly selective schools (Early Decision Columbia, Stanford, UChicago, UPenn, Pomona), and I feel like my Math scores on the SAT I might really hurt me.

I got 2170 in January with a 680 in Math and a 740 and 750 in reading and writing

I retook in October, and got 2290, but with an almost identical Math score (690) and 800s in CR and Writing.

Would having a subpar math score alongside stellar writing and CR adversely impact my application? Especially if I'm not taking any Math subject tests?

How do you define “subpar” for the colleges that you are applying to? What is the normal SAT math score (25th to 75th %) for admitted students at those colleges?

For Columbia it’s 700-790. Cause for concern?

It depends what the rest of your application looks like. Generally, one low-ish score shouldn’t be that big a deal.
