Does someone’s status as a National Merit Scholar (or any of the other levels) count for anything in the admissions process? Would NOT being a National Merit Scholar harm admissions chances?
Without knowing the specific circumstances, no, it does not matter at all. Many applicants, knowing that there is no financial incentive for Harvard and many of its peers. opt to forgo the SAT confirming test to focus on ACT. Many applicants don’t take the PSAT at all.
