How Important is the Writing Component?

<p>I was just wondering if colleges care about the writing component and whether or not they factor it into your score. I got:
36 English
36 Math
34 Reading
35 Science</p>

<p>But an essay of 9, making my Combined English/Writing 33</p>

<p>Does the writing component actually matter?</p>
