How important is what college you attended in the petroleum engineering field?

<p>I live in Texas at the moment, near houston, and would like to attend a college in Texas for for petroleum engineering and then work out on the gulf coast. </p>

<p>The thing is... my High school grades are rather mediocre- 4.0 weighted and I have not yet taken a standardized test. (Wast thinking ACT). Class rank is like 365/1000- pathetic. I did take an engineering course that got me into an engineering internship, but I don't know if that would really matter too much for applications.</p>

<p>How much will it effect my ability to find a job in the field if I attend a no name college like Texas Tech or the like? At this point it is doubtful that I would be able to get into UT or A&M or any of the big name state colleges. Will it drastically effect starting salary? Will it really matter for my second or third job in the field?</p>

<p>365/1000 is not pathetic. Pathetic would be more like 750th/1000. You could always try and transfer. In engineering your college and projects get you your first job, your first job gets you your second and so forth.</p>
