How important is your major?

I've heard people say that it's good to "match" your intended major to your resume in order to boost your chances of admissions. Anyone know if that's necessarily a huge factor?

I have a fairly decent resume, with lots of extracurriculars and volunteering. But my concentration is definitely in the sciences.. I've done research programs the past 2 summers, science fair, won school science awards, taken a gazillion extra science classes, etc etc. I've always wavered between liking the sciences and international affairs/econ, though, and I want to try out the latter first in college. Will it hurt me to put a non-science major down, especially if I am going for the most competitive schools? Actually, will it hurt me to even put down Undecided?

I think it depends largely where you're applying...if you were applying to some huge Economics school, then your science credits wouldnt matter. Unless its a science intensive school where you'd get accepted easily. I dont know...thats how i thought of it

Yea, I'd think it really depends on the school, though I know that math majors just aren't very common these days, yet schools want them, so I guess I lucked out in that department, so, but just a heads up that usually if you pick a major that it can very well lead your interview because interviewers like to ask you why you got interested in said major, so...
