Dulce, I can see the reason why you didn't get accepted.

Look at you, you are a complete jerk. Would you want a complete jerk to go to your college? No.

Maybe your interview owned you because your horrible personality came through, or maybe your overly-arrogant tone came through in your essays.
SAT and GPA don't mean ANYTHING if you don't have the right people skills..which you obviously dont.

i feel compelled to say three things
1. dulce, it is entirely hypocritical of you to be bashing penn if you applied to it. it is clear that you are bitter and are out to thrash on other peoples hopes to drag them down to the level that you feel.
2. sat writing, means absolutely nothing. 11/12 means nothing. 12/12 means nothing. they grade on formulaic writing. if you have a "math equation" paper (meaning its bland and has a thesis, 11 sentence paragraphs) you are likely to get a perfect. doesnt mean the essay, or your ability to write essays is any good.
3. you clearly had a deficiency that someone else filled for you. anyone can get high gpa and sat. they look holistically though. you of all people should know that gpa and sat do not show the worth or ability of a person, seeing as how you do not have exceptional of either, but you feel you are exceptional.

UMich also thought I was exceptional. The people at Chapel Hill think so too based on the likely letter. I am applying to Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, Georgetown RD. I'll let you all know the results. If all these schools accept me, then we'll really know something.
MY GC was truly surprised that I got deferred by Penn.

Dude, dulce, I think I'm speaking for everyone when I say no one cares about you anymore. You're ridiculous. Penn obviously did the right thing in deferring you. All you do is complain and sulk in your arrogrance. Disgusting.

Your GF probably doesn't know anything about Ivy League schools.

An Ivy League school isn't a safety or even a match for anyone. You shouldn't be surprised that an Ivy League school doesn't want you even tho you are qualified...beacause a lot of people are too.

Dulce, may I remind you that public schools have more room and money to admit more students and give them all the aid they merit than a private school (like Penn, you knew that Penn is private, right?). If you do not live in the Washington DC area, Georgetown is easier to get into than Penn. Cornell is easier to get into than Penn. Brown and Dartmouth are the two colleges as selective as Penn on your list and you very well may get into either of them, but who knows. At this level of competition and with your stats, applying to top colleges will be hit or miss. You missed with Penn, but you may luck out and get into all your other colleges. If you do get into Penn RD, before telling them your not matriculating, ask yourself why you applied ED in the first place. Don't be so bitter. It's Kwanzaa. Be happy.

It's hard to tell whether they are a student or a parent initially. Stats are okay, but definitely not part of the "perfect app"

I also had a 11/12 essay but was deferred from dartmouth. Certainly not the be all end all

Venkater is right, applying to top colleges is hit or miss. At all the information sessions I went to, the person speaking really stressed the point that upwards to 80% of all applicants could very well be admitted. They have proven they can handle the work. What separates an 80% acceptance rate from a 20% is "shaping" or "molding" a class.

Perhaps is dulce's case there was someone exactly like them, except was born with 11 toes.

OP, you certainly have a chance, you fall into that 80% category (and you didn't just sneak it, you are well within it), but what you have to do now is prove to Penn that you are part of their master plan of shaping a class, whether that be stressing the point that you are a perfect fit for the college newspaper or maybe you think the school does not have enough furniture store workers, its entirely up to you.

Look dulce, I feel really bad for you right now man. I know exactly how you feel since I was deferred from my dream school, Yale, as well in the early round. College admissions is very arbitrary and competitive and no one can predict anything with any degree of accuracy. You got a 60K merit scholarship from Michigan dude and that's nothing to scoff at; I live in-state and I am yet to receive any scholarships from Michigan. I am sorry that everyone on this board is being a jerk and giving you a hard time but my advice would be to ignore all the negative comments, do your best on your remaining RD applications, and realize that you're going to end up in good shape come April no matter how the college admissions process plays out for you.

I wish you a happy new year and the very best of luck!!!:):)

EAD, have you been bashing Yale on the Yale forums? If you were after your deferral, how would you expect the Yalies to react? Most of those rejected and deferred have moved on to their RD schools have stopped commenting on the Penn forum. Most of those deferred who still do are trying to get into Penn are supporting eachother and trying to help eachother get in RD.

jdub - thanks for you honest feedback regarding my chances in the midst of this war...
I loved the "whether that be stressing the point that you are a perfect fit for the college newspaper or maybe you think the school does not have enough furniture store workers, its entirely up to you" comment, totally lightened up my mood after thinking that I have 8 more essays to write.
