Does anyone know if UVA will frown on a student for not being able to visit the school prior to April 1st?

I don't think they even know if you visit or not. I never went on an official tour of the campus before coming here.

This is the link to the common data set for first year students. It states that level of applicant's interest isn't considered.

Thanks so much for the helpful responses!

they don't notice. i honestly believe they don't really give a flying hoot about anything like that. money? then they'll talk. :)
joking, people. don't have a cow. (except for the not noticing part)

I volunteer at admissions office and for prospective students who visit the office, they usually fill out an orange card indicating their intended major as well as address and other personal information - but very briefly. I know a Dean who chased after a mother and her son to go back into the office to have a chat bc they travelled all the way from Holland.

I don't think visiting will do much, but if you talk with the deans and show your interest, they will take not for sure. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

tenniscraze, what do you do at the admissions office? I'm just curious. What opportunities are available?

Just volunteering, plus it's fun talking to prospective students coz you get paranoid parents asking all sorts of - sometimes stupid - questions. I think u could get work-study, but I couldn't :P

Nah, I wouldn't exactly qualify for any financial aid...but volunteering sounds like something I'd be interested in. I'll have to look into it.

I knew two people who never set foot on Grounds until move-in day.

That includes me...

When you live in VA, you may visit friends or go to games but never even see or speak to an employee there. The basic tour is no where near as imformative and I would assume that whether you "sign in" somewhere or not does not tell whether you have been there.

I went on the tour twice =/ It's a student run organization and they have no idea who you are. Your better bet to leave some info would be to go to the admissions office.

My D just got a letter from UVA inviting her to visit, although it did state that a visit would not be considered as a factor in admission.

We have only visited two colleges close by us on the weekend (Vassar and Wesleyan) and I am hoping that this lack of visits does not affect her applications at faraway schools. Her high school is fussy about time off and she has already had too many college related days off.....
