How Impressive is My GPA for UCB

Hey guys last time, I asked people my gpa, and they said it was low. They said my weighted gpa was too low. However I forgot to mention the most important thing, because I ddint know hs gpa differed from schools to schools.
I have a 3.5 weighted gpa out of 4.0....In my hs weighted gpa is out 4.0....not until a week i found out that most hs weighted gpa is out of 5.0....so hows my weighted 3.5 for UCB

bump guys...................help me out...............somebody has to know something.........great when i need help the most, my luck, no one helps me

that is strange system..i have not heard anything like that...
i m clueless.
i m sorry

UCB: Reach

What's your unweighted GPA?

Yeah, at my school, our highest GPA is also out of 4.0 and there's only like one person out of 500 students who can get that every year.
By the way, I'm from Canada, and maybe the system here's a bit different. Last time I checked, my gpa (no idea weighted or not) was around 3.7-3.8 out of 4.0. What are my chances with this gpa if I were to apply to the top 25??

no im in us.....its only like because of the IB program.....my unweighted gpa is 3.4......idk how but dont ask....not really taht different

Berk: (oos) big reach

sorry, i saw your gpa as a 3.5, but just saw u posted it as closer to a 3.7-3.8.... what are your sat's/act's?
Berk: (oos) reach

actually if you take the gpa and divide it by 4 then times it by 5..you get 4.375....

I don't think it works that way but its good to be optimistic :P

the only GPA that matters is your UC GPA. Calculate that yourself and see how you measure up to Cal's average of 4.17

I think your weighted GPA is decent. I don't know how you do it at your school, but at my school, for all the AP courses I take I get weighted credit. Instead of getting 4 points for an A, in an AP course, I would get 5 points for the A (B -3 pts, C - 2 pts, etc). I go to a california public school and my school weights certain courses, the majority of them are ap courses, in accordance with the UC grade system. Your GPA is decent for UCB, but there is a good amount of applicants with 4.5+ UW.

yeah i'm in the IB and basically we're screwed because its like impossible for anyone to get higher than a 4.0. but at the same time all ib courses are honors, incl. hl and sl. so like even if you take sl history and got like a 3/7, which is a C, it would be calculated as a B for the UC gpa(which is a 3). so my weighted gpa is pretty high. quite wonderful.

i know you feel...and our schools gives a 1.10 % for IB classes...idk how that will help me....btw for those who are are talking about APs.....we dont have AP in our school, so dont know how that system works

Why do you wnt to spend $40K a year to go to Cal undergrad? Classes are huge and it's hard to graduate in 4 years. Save Cal for grad school, that's when it's great. Take your money to a school with smll classes where you will know your professors and have an overall better undergrad education and experience.

Depends on your rank and the competitiveness of your course selection/school.

dont have rank in your school...and our school is the best public schools and is in the top 100 for public school across the nation
