After you take out the legacies and athletes, what would you estimate the rate to be?
I don’t believe that Penn officially publishes that information, but Brown does (publish some of it). In this cycle, recruited athletes accounted for 26% of the class (down from 28% last year). Assuming that it’s about equal, the Brown numbers might give you an idea. It’s not exactly apples to apples - Penn admitted 24% of the pool, Brown 20% but it will give you an idea. (source: http://www.browndailyherald.com/2014/12/11/20-percent-early-decision-applicants-offered-admission/ ) At Penn, legacies only get additional consideration during the ED cycle, so I suspect legacies are a good percentage of the pool.
NB: This only refers to ED…that’s where a good deal (but not all) of your recruited athletes will be.
Penn has openly said they accept 46% of legacies in ED, the only time they will consider legacy. So, unhooked students may get an ED boost but not a huge one.
