How interesting are the students?

Sorry, I realize this is a very strange question but I know two current sophomores at Wash U and they both are a little...boring. Great people, very nice, but their idea of a good time is dreaming up ways to fundraise for children with cancer. Wash U does seem to have a reputation as a haven for squares, and that is not at all what I'm looking for at college. This is not to say that I want to party 24/7 (I don't drink or do drugs) but I want to find people who are creative, spontaneous, and fun-loving.

I am currently deciding between Wash U and Brown which seems full of very interesting people so I wanted to know if Wash U could offer the same.

Thank you!

WashU has a reputation as a haven for squares? That would be news to me, and I’m a student… I can confidently tell you that there are LOTS of interesting (ie fun/funny/spontanoeus/creative) people at WashU, with a huge variety of opinions on how to have fun. Incidentally (since you mentioned it) the most prominent fundraiser every year raises money for children by finding sponsors and dancing for 8+ hours straight… not as lame as one would think. :)

I don’t really have any basis for comparison with Brown, though, so I guess that’s up to you. Have you visited both schools? I would consider visiting a much better criteria for comparison than two people you happen to know who attend here… Both of your options are great schools though, so I’m sure you’ll do great whatever you decide.

people at washu party a LOT more than reviews such as the Princeton Review have said.
you’ll always find fun, crazy people, academically and socially.

I think it varies a lot. Apparently, the dorm I stayed in during the Multicultural Weekend had one floor above us that was more of the study-type, while my floor was more of the get-wasted and party hard type (though they were still quite brilliant). I would certainly say they were pretty interesting by any standard- yet still happened to be smart.

On a side note, when I passed by this bio lab, I saw this girl working who looked like your stereotypical dumb blonde. Yet, here she is working with test tubes and beakers by herself.

yeahhh… I have never heard the “haven for squares” reputation. The people at WashU are much more laid back and might not be as “extreme” or “intense” on many scales, but squares… no. The suite I stayed in for Scholars Weekend was a very varied group of people. They went clubbing Thursday night, toked it up Friday night, went paintballing Saturday, watched NCAA basketball Saturday, etc. etc. And that was just that one suite!
So yeah, they’re cool people. Not boring.

WUSL is my top school choice, stopping in just to say luke - paintball is awesome haha. i was sponsored for a while before i had to quit when the economy got bad
