How involved are your parents in your job search?

Hi everyone! I'm a journalism student writing a story on parent involvement in the workplace and I'm looking to see what students think of this subject. Are your parents involved in your job search or do you do it on your own? If they are involved, to what extent? Do they call employers for you, submit your resume, etc? Would you like your parents to be involved in your job search or do would you prefer to do it on your own? I would appreciate all thoughts/opinions on the subject. Many thanks for reading!

My parents were in no way involved, ever, pre- or post-college. My parents are not college-educated and don’t even know what a cover letter is, nor how to write a good resume. They also know very little about job prospects in my field, or where to look for job openings aside from the local newspaper’s classified ads.

Not involved at all apart from looking over my resume/cover letters.

Not at all. I don’t see any reason they should be.

My parents have nothing to do with my job search or school, other than the money to supply textbooks and materials.

Not at all. I agree with Chandi, they really shouldn’t be.

I’ll amend my statement slightly. I asked for interview-worthy clothes for Christmas my mother was more than happy to shop with me for them (we did it Black Friday so I actually got quite a few very nice outfits at a price acceptable to my parents). But as far as the job search itself goes, no. I get all of my advice on resume writing as well as help with the job search itself from my school’s career center.
